Bewitched is an American fantasy sitcom that debuted on ABC from September 17, 1964, to March 25, 1972, for a total of eight seasons.[1]: 95 It tells the story of a witch who marries a regular mortal guy and swears to live a typical suburban housewife’s life. The show was well-liked; it garnered the second-best rating in America during its first season, spent the next three seasons in the top 10, and finished in eleventh place in seasons four and five. The program is still available on recorded media and in syndication around the globe.
Bewitched was created by Sol Saks with Harry Ackerman serving as executive producer. It starred Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha Stephens, Dick York (1964–1969) as Darrin Stephens, Agnes Moorehead as Samantha’s mother Endora, David White as Darrin’s boss Larry Tate, Irene Vernon (1964–1966), and later Kasey Rogers (1966–1972) as Louise Tate, Larry’s wife, and Alice Pearce (1964–1966) After Alice Pearce passed away in 1966, Sandra Gould assumed the role of Gladys Kravitz (1966–1971). Maurice Evans played Samantha’s father, Maurice, Marion Lorne played her aunt Clara (1964–68), Alice Ghostley played Esmeralda, Samantha’s babysitter (1969–72), Paul Lynde played Samantha’s uncle Arthur (1965–71), Mabel Albertson played Darrin’s mother, Phyllis Stephens (1964–71), and Robert F. Simon and Roy Roberts alternated as Frank Stephens, Darrin’s father (1964–71).
The opening and closing animation credits were created by Hanna-Barbera.[2] On the list of “TV Guide’s 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time” in 2002, Bewitched came in at number 50.[3] The same magazine placed “Divided He Falls” from season 2 at number 48 on their list of the “100 Greatest Episodes of All Time” in 1997.
