Chelsea Legend Willian Draws Inspiration from Late Mother to Lead the Blues to Success

Willian, a defender for Chelsea, has expressed his readiness to regain his best form on the field now that he has come to terms with the devastating loss of his mother.

Maria da Silva, Willian’s mother, passed away in October after battling brain cancer. Despite undergoing surgery and treatment, her condition did not improve.

Willian, who hails from Brazil, was granted compassionate leave by Chelsea and returned home briefly to mourn his mother’s passing. Since then, the 28-year-old has resumed training at Stamford Bridge, although he has mostly been utilized as a substitute under the guidance of manager Antonio Conte, who has led the Blues to the top of the Premier League. Willian was arguably Chelsea’s standout player last season, a rare bright spot in an otherwise difficult campaign. The Brazilian asserts that his mother’s tragic death has given him the motivation to lead the team to success in her honor.

“It has been an incredibly challenging time for me,” Willian told Goal. “I lost my mother, and it has been emotionally tough. She was a significant person in my life, and she always will be.” Following her passing, I stayed in Brazil for a week to grieve. Since my return, I have gradually started feeling better and ready to play for the team again.

“Now, I can only focus on the positive things and continue working hard and performing. That’s all I want to do.” It was difficult for me to play against Crystal Palace because I hadn’t played a full 90 minutes in a long time.

“We did well to secure the victory, and now we must maintain the same momentum: winning, winning, and taking it one game at a time.”

Chelsea currently sits six points ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League table and will face Bournemouth on Boxing Day. Meanwhile, João Félix, a star player currently on loan at Chelsea, has expressed his desire to stay at the club when his loan spell ends this summer. The Portuguese international joined the Blues from Atlético Madrid in January, hoping to rejuvenate himself and contribute to the team’s success.

However, neither Félix nor Chelsea have experienced the desired outcome. The team has struggled, finding themselves in the middle of the table despite various lineup combinations. While Frank Lampard is currently in charge, he is set to be replaced by Mauricio Pochettino after just two more games.

Reports suggest that Pochettino has reached an agreement with Chelsea to become their next head coach. Once he assumes control, his next task will be to rebuild the team according to his vision. This means players like Félix may have to make significant decisions. Atlético Madrid has reportedly set a transfer fee of £87 million for the forward. Félix has already dismissed rumors of a lucrative move to Newcastle this summer. Despite the absence of Champions League games and European trips at Stamford Bridge next season, the 23-year-old seems to be making a strong case for his future at the club.

In a video on social media, Félix stated, as reported by The Secret Scout, “I don’t know what my future holds, but I’ve enjoyed the last four or five months. This is a fantastic club, and everyone has treated me very well. My teammates are exceptional. I’m glad to be here.”

Félix’s future remains uncertain at this point, although he has quickly integrated himself within the group during his short time at the club. It remains to be seen whether Pochettino will utilize his skills and successes on the field to build his own team in the future.
