The brownie that triggered her fatal reaction was gifted by a friend who had no idea it contained roasted peanut flour, a gluten-free alternative. As Hannah took her second bite, she realized something was wrong. Her father, David Glass, later explained that the ingredient’s use may have masked its peanut origin, complicating Hannah’s ability to detect the danger.
The Rapid Onset of Anaphylaxis
Hannah’s allergic reaction was swift and severe. She vomited, broke out in hives, and initially seemed to find some relief after taking Benadryl. But when she climbed onto her top bunk to rest, her condition deteriorated dramatically.
