Vin Diesel as Dominic “Dom” Toretto in last year’s Fast & Furious 9.
Local residents have announced a protest against the shooting of the tenth “Fast & Furious” film in Los Angeles. Is production at risk?
Before the multi-billion dollar Fast & Furious franchise ventured into space (in cars, of course), illegal street racing was at the heart of the storyline. Some residents of the Angelino Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles are grieving for the legacy of the film series. They have announced a protest against planned filming of “Fast & Furious 10” on Friday (26 August) in their area. This is reported by the US industry magazine “Variety”.
Movie fans terrorize locations from the “Fast & Furious” series
Two central motifs of the “Fast & Furious” films lie in Angelino Heights. In Kensington Road is the house of the fictitious Toretto family, which also includes Vin Diesel’s (55) main character Dom Toretto. In “Toretto’s Market & Cafe”, however, the main characters in the franchise starter “The Fast and the Furious” from 2001 get to know each other.
Almost every night, according to Variety, these locations would now be haunted by fans of the film series. In their high-horsepower cars, they perform so-called “donuts”, i.e. tight circles on the road surface with the tires spinning. The town los Angeles I’ve already set up bollards to cordon off Toretto’s Market & Cafe, which is actually called Bob’s Market, but speeders would simply swerve onto surrounding streets or skirt the cordons.
Some residents of Angelino Heights also explain that their protest announced for this Friday is not so much against the one-day one filming would be directed, but rather against the effect of the films, which they felt in their neighborhoods throughout the year. In addition to the “donuts” mentioned above, drivers in the area regularly rev their engines, crash into parked cars during their driving maneuvers and then, in some cases, get away from the driver. Guns were also pointed at residents who complained about the noise and smoke generated by the cars. “Someone will be killed sooner or later,” a worried local resident told Variety.
So far, there has been no statement from the film production in this regard. An official filming permit is said to have not yet been granted.
